Zion’s Day Brings a Message of Peace, Love, and Unity in Fayetteville, NC

On June 7, 2025, Festival Park was filled with powerful unity and heartfelt remembrance as the community honored the life of Zion Gibbs, a young boy lost too soon to senseless gun violence. The day was more than a memorial—it was a stand against violence, a push for peace, and a celebration of Zion’s lasting impact rooted in love.

Organized by Myra Gibbs, Zion’s mother, the event reflected her son’s legacy — a boy remembered for his big heart, joyful spirit, and care for others. Still navigating the pain of her loss, Myra has transformed grief into purpose through the launch of the nonprofit Zion Legacy of Love. This event was a way to share Zion’s spirit with the community — bringing people together around the values he embodied: compassion, joy, and connection.

The day began with a peaceful Cruise for Peace, featuring a caravan of Corvettes and other vehicles riding from Walmart on Gillis Hill Road to Festival Park. The public show of support included car clubs, community leaders, and everyday citizens driving in unity to stand with the Gibbs family.

At Festival Park, a vibrant block party welcomed hundreds of residents with music, games, and heartfelt energy. Despite a forecast of rain earlier in the week, the skies cleared for one of the sunniest afternoons of the year. Children enjoyed bounce houses, bubble zones, lawn games, video games, temporary tattoos, and candy. Families, vendors, and first responders filled the park with laughter, hugs, and shared memories.

Support also came from nonprofit DrumzUp GunzDown, which connected with youth through rhythm and creativity. They provided free drum lessons and performances, using music as a tool for positive expression and emotional release.

Throughout the day, parents gathered under shaded tents while children played nearby. Emotional conversations and kind gestures filled the space with both joy and reflection. At the main tent, attendees learned about Zion’s story and the purpose of Zion Legacy of Love, with many offering their support to Myra and her mission to create change.

Though this was the nonprofit’s first public event, its impact was clear. The turnout showed that Fayetteville is ready to stand for a safer community—one built on love, unity, and hope. Neighbors, families, and advocates came together to carry forward the legacy of a young boy whose life continues to inspire others.
