About Zion
Zion Arym Gibbs was more than a child—he was a light. Born and raised in Fayetteville, North Carolina, Zion was a joyful, kind-hearted, and imaginative 7-year-old with a heart that touched everyone around him. He attended Bright Young Minds Academy and was known for his vibrant spirit, his love for others, and his natural way of bringing people together.
Zion truly embodied the meaning of his name. Just as the biblical Zion is known as a place of peace, strength, and spiritual significance, Zion carried those same qualities in everything he did. Whether it was his nightly routine of hugs and kisses, his spontaneous songs to lift someone’s mood, or his thoughtful compliments to anyone who needed them—Zion lived with love at his core. He was God-fearing, full of faith, and his love for God was never in question.
He had a deep love for his family and lit up every room he entered. There was never a dull moment when Zion was around—his spontaneous dance moves would get all the kids moving, and his love for gospel and R&B music filled the air with joy. One of his favorite songs to sing, word for word, was “Lift Me Up” by Rihanna. That song now carries deep meaning for his family, offering comfort in grief and reminding them that leaning on each other for strength is not only okay—it’s necessary.
Zion dreamed of flying one day. He loved superheroes, firetrucks, and showed compassion far beyond his years, especially toward children with disabilities. He was a gentle leader and a bright presence in the lives of many.
His mother, Myra Gibbs, served as a 911 dispatcher for many years, and his older siblings, Zaire and Zariyah, are both college students. The family is rooted in service, resilience, and faith.
In June 2024, Zion’s life was tragically cut short due to senseless violence. In the aftermath of that unimaginable loss, his family chose to honor his memory by creating Zion Legacy of Love—a nonprofit dedicated to carrying forward Zion’s joy, compassion, and giving spirit. Through toy drives, youth support programs, and community healing initiatives, Zion’s legacy continues to bring light, love, and hope to others.
Zion’s name wasn’t just a label. It was his identity. His essence. And now, it’s a movement. One rooted in love. One that will touch lives for years to come.
